A Gastropub in Montrose? You mean I don't have to take multiple freeways to get there? You mean, I have other places to eat at in Honolulu Ave. besides the fake pho place and the artery clogging barbeque franchise and the soggy salads at some of the "cafes" and the unlimited froyo place that keeps changing their name or spend an exhorbitant amount of money at an establishment that is not going to be there in 3 months? Cuz, come on. If it's a gastropub, it's only a matter of time before I become a regular there. And it's SO CLOSE. I can take local. Maybe I should sign up for the spinning classes across the street so I can finish off a workout with some Chimay. Nice! This place is awesome and obviously for dog-lovers. There is a dog water bowl outside for all the dogs that get walked on this street. I still don't really get why people would drive over to Honolulu Ave. to walk their dogs (would you want your dogs to go in front of restaurants?) but I don...

Angelino's Cafe

Image
I found a new place that I love and will be on my "repeat" list. I actually found this place on yelp.com when I was searching for $ (low priced) restaurants near Westwood. When Angelino's came up and I read all the reviews, I was stunned I didn't know about this place sooner. I must have passed by it all the time without ever noticing it! D and I drove to the address and realized that it was right across the street from the Westwood Brewing Co. It's right next to the ice cream shop. How could we have missed it? The space is small and the awning is green. If you blink you might miss it so make sure you have your eyes peeled when you're at this intersection. When we entered, the restaurant was empty. Perhaps they are busier during lunch times? The tv was on, playing a soccer game. The owner greeted us. Where were the workers? He was the only one behind the counter. After we ordered, he went to go cook the meal for us and I saw him do everything from where I was ...

How to grow a basil plant

I made a video to encourage myself to start planting my own herb garden. First up, basil!

Dieting

I've gained so much weight from the Foodies Nation documentary I'm doing that I'm looking at different ways to trim back down. There is the Raw food diet , which, basically you can't eat anything cooked over 116 degrees. My co-worker/boss says she lost 40 pounds on it. I can also go vegan ala Skinny Bitch style. Then there's the Abs Diet , eating organic food only, etc. etc. I'm also doing the bar method, which is supposed to burn my butt but it's really just kicking my butt. Really, I think I should eat out less. =*(

The other Jose Andres' Restaurant (DC)

Image
Jaleo Before Bazaar in LA, there was Jaleo in DC. Well, along with Oyamel, Zatinya, Minibar, and Cafe Atlantico. Jose Andres' restaurants are scattered all over DC, VA, MD area. The foodies in DC told me that Jaleo is more of a generic tapas place and not that special or wow-worthy. Oyamel, on the other hand, is a different story (pricier than Jaleo and more upscale, and Mexican inspired. Jaleo is Spanish.) but I'm not here to talk about Oyamel, a place I've never been to. Jaleo is a tapas restaurant with three locations. We went to the Crystal City location in a group of 6 wellesley women just living it up. The bartender spilled alcohol all over Lila's top and gave us all a free drink. I'd say it was worth it but then again, I wasn't the one with the wet boob the entire night. After we had a few drinks at the bar and were sufficiently loud, we sat down to enjoy our dinner. It took us forever to order and it wasn't because we didn't know what to...

Andersen's Danish Bakery & Restaurant

(Butterfly Beach, Santa Barbara, CA) butterfly beach from jin yoo on Vimeo . Time for another non-LA restaurant review. Reviewing places outside of LA makes me feel special. I'm not ever the first to review a secret emerging restaurant in LA and I usually find out about cool new restaurants from die-hard food bloggers. As for me, I have too many hobbies to really take one up with such focus. (Butterfly Beach, Santa Barbara, CA) Deuce Coupe So when I was up in Santa Barbara on the infamous State St., I wanted to go back to Petit Valentien because of how much I loved the food + atmosphere + price the last time I visited but I also wanted to try something new. I'll admit I was also a bit underdressed for Petit Valentien since I had spent the entire day in my bathing suit lounging around Butterfly Beach and then riding in a deuce coupe for the rest of the afternoon. Not having an iphone or blackberry or a cellphone with good internet service, I had no way of yelping or searchin...
