Foodie Nation Teaser

I've been working on this long term project called Foodie Nation. I'm looking to hire an editor and a post production supervisor to help me shape the arc of this documentary. Two years ago, I followed a Los Angeles based foodies as they brought me into their world of food, and why it was so important for them. Take a look and let me know what you think of it!

Cenaduria Jorgelito en Los Angeles aka McBistro

Tonight I had the privilege of attending a private dinner for 14 at the house of Jorgito (he prefers this over "Jorgelito" but the title above is the name of his menu). We started off with a glass or two of the Sangria de la Casa, which were delish. There was a sweet and tangy kick to it. As soon as we were liquored up a little bit, we started with the best tasting quesadillas I've ever had; the Quesadillas de Chorizo y Cebollas con Queso Mexicano. It was absolutely wonderful because it had sausage in it. Well, also because there were green onions and other stuff but woot! The Sausage was an unexpected surprise. We had the quesadillas with the Jalapenos Escabeche and homemade salsa. Jorgito made the Jalapenos by pickling them for three days. He put so much thought into his menu and it really showed. Next, we had the Cocteles de Camarones Vera Cruz which can be described as shrimp cocktail on crack and slurpable. It comes in a glass and a spoon is optional but trust...

Film + Foodies = Feature Documentary

What have I been doing recently? If you know me, you might know that I'm a filmmaker, or a film student (depending on your stance on what makes a filmmaker a filmmaker). My latest project was supposed to be a 5 minute documentary about food bloggers. What started out as a small school project burgeoned into a ginormous undertaking and can not be a 5 minute documentary anymore because it just would not do any justice to those involved. To give you an idea of where I went to film and how many people I interviewed, here is my shooting schedule that is still growing as we speak (I will leave out the names of those involved until after the doc is finished). 03/30/09: Nyala Ethiopian Cuisine. Food blogger = 1. 03/31/09: Serbian Tasting at Metro Diner. Foodies = 25 or so but interviewed about 10. 04/5/09: LA Curry Festival. Foodie = 1. 04/06/09: La Casita Mexicana traditional menu tasting. Foodies = 20 something + chefs. 04/08/09: Wonton Forest for lunch. Foodie = 1. Silverlake wine + Tac...

This is called a "bulldog," which is essentially a beef frank wrapped in cheese, wrapped in wonton wrapper and deep fried. It's definitely THE stoner food of all time. Too bad I don't get stoned so for me, this was just fatty greasy food that I wouldn't every really crave. I give props to the people who thought of the concept though. I could just imagine the conversation. Dood #1: "Dood, this hot dog is good but you know what would make it AWESOME? A hot dog wrapped in cheese!" Dood #2: "Yeah! In an EGG ROLL! Like a cheesy eggroll hot dog!" Dood#1: "Dooooood. We should call it the bull dog. You know, like a hot dog, except on crack so that's like a bull dog cuz a bull dog is like a hot dog on crack." Dood#2: "Genius!" I was more a fan of their YAKISITO, which is chocolate pudding with cinammon and sugar wrapped in a long won ton wrap in teh shape of a taquito. Now THIS, I can crave. * In a rather cool update, I'm sta...
